What Synthesis Art Means to Me.

Synthesis Art blends different artistic styles, techniques, and disciplines into a unified whole. It began in the late 1800s as a reaction to fragmented traditional art. Spearheaded by Post-Impressionist artists Paul Gauguin and Émile Bernard, the movement centred around the artists' colony of Pont-Aven, France.

The movement aimed to combine three features: the outward appearance of natural forms, the artist's personal feelings, and the pure aesthetic considerations of light, colour, and form.

The movement values harmony among contrasting elements and encourages experimentation to create works that go beyond one category. To this day, Synthesis Art can address contemporary social and technological themes, linking past and present.

For me, Synthesis Art is about bringing together different ways of seeing, creating, and feeling.

I create art through macro photography, painting, drawing, and sculpture that I hope feels joyful, engaging, thoughtful, and mindful. I draw on places I have visited whilst enjoying my time in the great outdoors.

I used to walk for pace and exercise, always looking towards the next highest peak or chasing the thrill of height. However, speeding through life's rich tapestry, I realised I had missed so much.

These days, I take note. I take photographs to savour every moment, looking for the potential in every environment I visit.

Seeing the World Differently

My pieces are created from curiosity and an open mind, exploring macro photography to the point where a subject becomes an abstract art piece. It is referred to in the art world as Macro Expressionism.

Each piece shows the deep connection I feel with my subjects, whether they are nature's wonders or simple still lifes inspired by childhood sweets, phrases that have moved me, or ideas that intrigue my mind and force me to act.

I focus on transitions: life's constant changes and transitions as we journey through our years on Earth.

Some transitions are beautiful, some painful, and some we hardly notice, but all are relevant and shape who we really are at a point in time. All these movements teach us something new, and it is important to take time to reflect on life's lessons.

The camera shutter has the wonderful ability to freeze a moment in time. I feel very privileged to decide at what point that moment is captured.

One simple press — and that's it. A moment frozen in time.

I also love creating visual interpretations of words, memories, and emotions, capturing and conveying the spirit of life's conversations.

Each piece is an invitation to pause, explore one's feelings, and discover and savour the small moments of wonder woven into everyday life.

A Love of the Great Outdoors

Synthesis Art, for me, is manifested from a deep love of life in the great outdoors, where my passion for action sports has taken me to extraordinary natural environments around the world.

These experiences have fostered a genuine appreciation for the beauty and complexity of the natural world around us.

Art is everywhere I look. It broadens minds and deepens our understanding of life by opening multiple perspectives.

My work is egalitarian, and it embraces the belief that everything is possible.

For me, art is an opportunity to explore, express, and accept a personal “theory of everything” — realised through creative imagination, then held in a moment in time with the click of a shutter, a swish of a brush, or through the creation of a sculpture.

I enjoy the empowerment of creating something from an idea and then seeing its meaning unravel through the eyes of the viewer.

From My Art to Your Heart

I hope you can enjoy the art pieces I have been privileged to capture or make.

My pieces work across many mediums and can be printed to size to order. However, the water reflections work particularly well with a brushed aluminium effect in silver or gold.

If you want to keep costs down, you can also order a fine art poster.

May the art on your wall calm your mind, invite introspection, and enrich your inner conversation.

“Nature Heals.”

Thank you for visiting.

From my art to your heart take care.

PS — The Journey Continues

The Evenly Bee — Bombus Lavendula was entered into a local show, and I was so happy when the 1st Prize rosette was awarded in 2025.

That moment gave me even more encouragement to keep creating. So, I have just kept going over the last 12 months, and I will endeavour to create more.

Look out for the changes in the gallery there is a lot more to come.

People say a dyslexic mind is a creative mind, so never give up on learning, exploring, and creating new things.

Take care,
